About
"It was a classified ad that brought together the John Punch Band. Cory (guitar/ banjo/ lead vocals/ keyboards) sought musicians to play in a band he wanted to form (Car Bombs and Allah), which would combine a fast-paced country rhythm with rock elements, attentive percussion, a steady bass and featured a harmonica that drove through you with the force of a train.
"The music is a collaborative process that begins, often times, with Cory, based in blues, folk, rock and country. Dylan and Chris write their respective parts to Cory's melody. John Punch is based on structure and melodic process, not pounding out familiar chords, progressions and concepts. It's a true Canadian sound."
Who is John Punch?
"But who the fuck is John Punch? Cory came up with the name: "I originally
heard of John Punch from the Howard Zinn book ["A People's History
of The United States"] and ... it's an awful story of racism that more
people should know about, and none of us should ever forget.

I'm not sure entirely why, but I'm attracted to that man's slave name that was given
to him. "
"The John Punch sound could be the soundtrack to a revolution — or at least
to some great parties."
